The Locations:
Boeing Australia head office –Brisbane. Also operational site at Amberley, Canberra, Williamtown and Oakey.

The Task:

Deliver a leadership development program appropriate for an Australian workforce
Total Leadership Group: 700 + leaders (including emerging leaders, frontline leaders, middle management, project Leaders, senor and executive Leaders)
Reinforce the importance of high quality, effective leadership in parallel with good management
Coach individuals in recognizing and addressing their personal leadership challenges and development goals.

Key Project Differentiators/Challenges

Alignment of Australian/U.S./Military leadership archetypes and models
Mixed U.S./Australian workforce
Strong engineering culture / strong technical focus for many leaders

What We Did:

Liaised closely with OD / Change Manager
Delivered a strong and defensible leadership development program that mapped back to the organisation’s values
Participated in active evaluation of the program / Implemented improvement change as identified
Carefully interpreted and integrated Parent Company’s model and mapped back to it
Ran 70 + programs. Over a 12 month period
Each program consisting of 2 x 2 day Modules and 2 x 1:1 Coaching sessions for each participant
Coached for specific application / engaged Sponsors in this process where possible>
Action Learning methodologies were used as a vehicle for creating change/new behaviour/new results
Kept concepts strong and simple>
Overtly recognised that leadership and management are complementary and essential – valued management

The Results:

Positive feedback post program from majority of participants (>80%)
Coaching session identified as critical in the success of the program
Significant improvements in organisational “metrics” relating to morale and employee engagement
Measurable improvements in leader’s performance, particularly at team level

RTA / Managing Change

RTA / Managing Change

The Location:
Brisbane CBD

The Task:

RTA was on the brink of a major organisational change – implementing a new operating system, restructuring the organisation and becoming much more customer focussed.
Synergy was tasked to co develop and co deliver a program aimed at 3 outcomes across 200 staff:

To provide up to date information on changes to date and changes to come.
To develop both personal and organisational resilience in the face of change.To enthuse and inspire employees to “think people” in their dealings with clients and with each other.

Particular Challenges:

Programs could only be onsite and ½ day duration inside working hoursStaff had high levels of anxiety and anticipation
Staff had high levels of anxiety and anticipation

What We Did:

Made the program fast paced, experiential, colourful and interactive.
Deployed one of our most experienced facilitators to deliver.
Involved senior staff members in delivery.
Ran 12 programs for about 18 people per program over a 3 week period.

The Result/s:

High levels of positive feedback (90%+) from participants’ post program evaluation.
Observable improvements in customer service.
Reportedly increased personal resilience across workforce.

Talisman / Safety Leadership

Talisman / Safety Leadership

The Location:
Various remote oil and gas exploration locations in the Western Provinces of PNG

The Task:

Reinforce Talisman’s Safety Culture across the workforce and secure greater commitment and understanding
Support safety leadership across the organisation and build leadership capacity
Build strong team spirit and esprit de corps within the workforce

Particular Challenges:

Isolated locations with limited facilities
Language differences – many participants had English as a third language, while others were expat English speakers
Disruptions to plan caused by weather and operational requirements

What We Did:

Carefully planned active experiential processes with a message: simple messages aligned with Talisman’s documentation.
Integrated these into the program.
Worked out itineraries and numbers.
Dealt with numerous changes and disruptions “on the run”.
Delivered programs in whatever facilities each site afforded.
Worked with a total of around 120 people, both direct Talisman employees and contractors.

The Result/s:

Enthusiastic participation from both Nationals and expats.
Reported increased understanding and commitment to Operational Excellence and Target Zero across workforce.
Increased confidence in safety leadership and leadership generally.
Stronger sense of “team” within the workforce
